I'm several classical mp3 tagging with Mp3tag, with field such "CONDUCTOR" (TPE3), "COPYRIGHT" (TCOP), "ORIGYEAR" (TORY), all in ID3v2.3 format.

I'm going to buy an Ipod Classic 80Gb. When I'll use Itunes, these field will them read from my Ipod?
I suspect that Itunes do not manage them. unsure.gif

Will Itunes override them? Or I've got it wrong, and even if Itunes does not support them I will see them on the ipod all the same? happy.gif

If yes, any alternative programs?

Thanks in advance.

ITUNES is free. Download the program and take a look at the VIEW options. Be sure to turn on "show browser" as well to see listings at top of genre/artist/album. This will show you the columns you can select to display. Most of these will NOT display on the actual IPOD (you'll see artist, album, title when playing a song). But ITUNES reads ID3v2.3 taqs just fine. I rip in dbpoweramp to FLAC and mp3, do some modifications to tags in mp3tag, but ultimately import all the mp3 files into ITUNES in order to sync with IPOD. Note that once ITUNES reads your tags, it essentially creates its own database (library) and it is this info that is transferred over to the IPOD itself. NOTE: In itunes preferences /ADVANCED turn OFF the "keep ITUNES library organized" option. If you don't uncheck this, itunes will rename your files and place them in a directory structure that looks like: ARTIST/ALBUM/track# title. If you don't check this, ITUNES won't rename or move your files.

Note that there a few oddities in itunes regarding fields that are not standard. Most things work just fine and I"ve been able to find workarounds for those things that don't work out of the box. Bottom line, itunes has not caused me any problems.

Also, everyone's financial situation is different, but unless it is a hardship, I can't see not getting the 160GB version. A little more money and a lot more space. Folks often think, "i've got more space than I'll ever use". I thought that with my 20GB ipod, my 30GB ipod, my 60GB ipod, and now my 160GB IPOD is FULL. Music collections have a way of growing to fill your space.... (and the ipod is the cheap part of my music collection!)

Moderation: Quotation removed. It's the first reply, so what's the point? Also, it's considered good etiquette to reply underneath the quote, not on top of it.

Oh, so all my hard work will be lost (I mean: I will not see those informations)! What a pity! sad.gif

But then, is the Ipod firmware that reads the ID3v2.3 fields and choose those are right? huh.gif

The iPod itself doesn't read tags/metadata at all. It only takes the information from the application that loads the content, which is generally iTunes. As mentioned, the iPod only cares about a minimal set of fields.

Ok. But exist another application than iTunes that can do it?
greynol
Yes, many.

Which application do you suggest me (it must support my Ipod Classic)?

No matter what iPod Manager you use, iPod will not show them or support them.

Not even the comparatively most basic tag: AlbumArtist is yet supported by iPod.

Ok, thanks!
You cleared up my doubts.

Cheers.
