OK here goes.
I'm looking forward to doing some vinyl rips (finally) through my PC. A few quick specs that may help:
Soundcard: Asus Xonar D2X
TT: Goldring 1.2
Phono Preamp: TC-750LC (from Phonopreamps.com)
Recording / Editing app: Sony Soundforge 9
PC: Dell Dimension 5100
Anyway, the problem is that I get an intermittent burst of static; maybe it's more of a buzz. Listen to a sample for yourself.
I recorded that with the preamp powered up & plugged into the line-in jack of the Xonar. This seems to be the only time it happens, and to tell you the truth it's not very loud. Still, it's a concern nonetheless. Do you think it's the preamp, or the wiring in my apartment? Those seem to be the most logical explanations to me, although I suppose it could be drivers or the older mobo in this Dell I have. (I am rebuilding soon, though, so maybe it'll go away then?)
Anyway, just looking for some troubleshooting help / ideas from someone with more experience than me. ...which would be pretty much everybody. ;-) Thanks in advance.
[edit] Just thought I'd add that the quick sample I included is quite quiet & brief, so you'll need to turn the volume way up. The static bursts are sometimes a fair bit longer than that one. Also, I need a line level amp for my rig. I've ordered one, but don't have it yet. So, that sound will be much louder when I'm ready for recording.
