My minisystem stereo just died after four years (one of the speakers blew out and shorted out the system). Technology obviously has changed, but I'd still like to get a minisystem if possible for cost/space reasons. The most recent Consumer Reports on minisystems was 2 1/2 years ago.
My "dead" stereo was a Phillips FW-C527...not that top of the line, but what I could afford at the time. Cost about $200 at Best Buy. Three CD changer, double cassette deck (which I don't want or need on my next unit), 240 watts total.

Any suggestions as to a good brand/model? I need one with a multi-CD changer, powerful sound (hard rock and blues are my favorite types of music) and plays CDRs with no problems. I'd like to spend less than $500 if possible, but want a stereo that will last longer than the one I had (although to be fair, I did play it to death). Thanks!!
