I am a beginner with audacity. I am trying to amplify the sound of a song I have, it is a fan taped live recording. I want to amplify the recording, but when I amplify it, the bass is increased, and I don't want that. How do I amplify the sound without having the bass increase? Any help would be greatful, thanks!

You could try applying an equalization, instead of just amplification. That way, you can amplify the parts you're interested in, while leaving the lower regions (Bass) as they are.

Other than that, i guess it's a try and error task.

Amplify to desired level, then reduce bass with the equalizer.
