Full Version: rip again or is converting of .wav files as good?

Hi,

I ripped approx. 60 CDs with Windows Media Player into .wav, because I couldnīt use dbpoweramp nor EAC on that particular computer to convert into .flac at that time.

No I can. The question that comes up is: Would it be recommandable to rip all these CDs again "directly into flac" or would the result be as good if I convert the .wav files originally created with WMP?

thanks
psycho
WMP rips aren't accurate. Could be that you wont hear any difference, but if accuracy is important to you, you should rerip with EAC or dbpoweramp.

Agreed.

Thanks for the replies.

* If the CDs are in good, mostly very good to excellent condition 5 (default) in dbpoweramp should normally be sufficent for an accurate rip, is that correct?

* With EAC the following problem occurred. If the admin is logged in on the computer Iīm using, EAC recognizes the CD-ROM drive and works, if I – as user – am logged in, it doesnīt recognize the CD-ROM drive and therefore doesnīt work. Is there a way around, or is EAC programmed that way?

Unfortunately I still have the same problem, although I did exactly what was suggested in this thread.

(Logged in as admin and configurate EAC, copied the attachments, executed both expEAC.cmd and changeRights.cmd; then - as user - executed impEAC.cmd).

Nothing changed. EAC still - as user - doesnīt show the CD-Rom drive.

Does anyone have any further ideas, suggestions, what might cause this problem?

Thanks for your help.

I am not sure what you are asking. Are you referring to 5 as the FLAC setting? This is different then ripping in dBpoweramp, which has a ripper that is as good or better then EAC.

I am experimenting with both EAC and dbpoweramp for ripping in order to find out, which I do prefer.

My question was referring to compression level 5 in dbpoweramp.
From the tests I made, it sounds pretty good.

I was wondering, if ripping with a higher (or maximum) compression rate would produce much better results, so it would justify the extra time for ripping.

"5" is a flac setting which has no effect on quality, only the relative size of the file and how long it takes to compress: lossless is lossless.

There you go!

I should have asked this first, but assumed you had already tried that route.

Pop this in your EAC directory and restart EAC. It is by far the easiest option. If it doesn't work try a different one.

I finally got EAC to work by downloading NeroBurnRights and installing it.

(The wnaspi32.dll on its own didnīt do it.)

Thanks for all your support and greetings

It wasnīt my intention to post my reply 3 times...

Actually I didnīt expect it to be posted at all, since I stopped the posting because it was taking to long and my browser didnīt show the task was done.
