A few years ago I bought a pair of Sony Professional headphones for around $120. Excellent audio. I use them in my room and have taken good care of them. However, I have noticed that if I press them lightly against my ears the bass response and overall sound clarity really increases. Sounds pop out, I get a real feeling of depth. When they sit normally on my ears the sound just seems flat and worn out.

Is this a sign they are wearing out? Or maybe the foam earpieces are shot? I cannot find any way to adjust the tension so they fit more tightly. Is this an attribute of all headphones?

Any ideas are appreciated.

sounds like your pads are worn out. Can they be taken off and perhaps restuffed with maybe cotten? Or see if they sell replacement pads. It does happen to other models I know that.
