This thread has proved interesting indeed. I feel that the wiki should be enlarged with this additional information as provided by Jean and Greynol. Perhaps the wiki should be split up into "Basic" and "Advanced"?
Basic will help those who want to start quickly, but also provide detailed enough information in the advanced section for those who have moved beyond the basics...

Perhaps the wiki should be split up into "Basic" and "Advanced"?.

That is a great idea!

I've been reading this thread with interest, especially the recommended method for caching drives and no C2 (my drive is similar) posted at the digital inn link.

My question is, what exactly does synchronization do? The quote from the wiki in the first page of this thread mentions "Burst copy is even worse, no synchronization is performed at all"

In the days of old, drives were not able to consistently seek data to the exact sample. EAC and some other ripping programs would overlap data between successive reads in order to correct for samples that would have otherwise been left out or repeated.

Drives that have Accurate Stream no longer have this problem, though exceptions can be found when ripping defective discs.

Thanks for your explanation! I'll have to take care if I decide to pull the older drive from my disused computer to use on my newer computer.
