Hello everyone,

Recently, I just purchased a Sony CMT-HX3 shelf stereo for $300 (i'm from Canada), and while I liked the sound quality and everything, I jumped when I saw how fragile and thread-thin the speaker cords are built-into the speakers . The line from the speakers are built-in, and they look so thin that I fear one little pull will break it apart from the speaker [u](I haven't dared to touch it). I'm really not that experienced in how those parts work, so can anybody assure me that those speaker cords are not as fragile/weak as they look? I have attached two pictures below. The second one is a close-up of the speaker cords that I'm talking about! Thanks!!!

I have seen speaker wires smaller than that. Don't worry. My Logitech system has speakers wires of about the same size and I haven't had any problems with them. I have owned them since 2004 and they have moved to 5 different places with me (two places were a 3 day drive away). So no, don't worry. Treat them as you would any speakers and you will be fine.

Heh. Thanks for the assurance. I wonder why they make the speaker wires so small/thin and then have them just built into the speakers? How will I be able to fix it if I somehow tugged those thin wires out of the speaker?

Assuming you figure out how to open the boxes, there isn't really any problem fixing them. Opening speaker boxes is usually quite messy however, so doing so is something you hold off on doing until you really need to. However, I doubt that there is any big risk that you'll break the wires as it would take quite a hard tug to yank them out of the speakers... so hard that it isn't really feasible that you would do it by accident.

Why would it be messy? My Paradigm Titans just had the regular padding stuff in it, not too messy at all.

Hopefully, if they are made correctly, there is either a knot in the wire or other device to prevent the cable from being pulled out. If that does happen, just open it up and solder new wires onto the speakers.

But yeah, that's pretty normal. Just treat it with the regular amount of care and you'll be fine.
