Hi, I have the E-MU 1616 PCI and X-Fi Elite Pro sound cards in the same system and im trying to get both installed and working at the same time so I can switch between them as needed for example gaming.
Im using Vista 64bit Ultimate and dual boot with x64 XP Pro. Im unable to get the both cards working when trying to install their drivers. When I install the X-Fi with the latest drivers when the E-MU is installed, Vista blue screens with a stop error during bootup. I believe whats causing this is the X-Fi drivers are also being installed to the E-MU so they were both using the same driver. What I found out is that after digging through the driver files for the X-Fi, it actually has support for the E-MU in it.
I think the main problem is that both drivers for the cards install in the same place in the windows system folders so when you install one, it overwrites the files of the other or something. Strangely enough I was able to get both cards working at the same time with no playback problems in XP X64 when the X-Fi uses the E-MU drivers. I havent tried this in Vista yet because it would seem to me they should use their own latest drivers. I was under the impression they were using their own separate versions in XP but after further digging in device manager I was wrong. So the only solution in Vista to avoid the BS at bootup is to disable the X-Fi so I can use the E-MU.
So I was hoping someone could help me out and determine if I can actually use these both in the same system with their own drivers in Vista.
On a site note, would it be possible to delete the E-DSP lines and stuff in the X-fi driver so maybe it wouldnt detect the device? The only problem with this I can think of is if they both install to the same directories in the windows folder, the files could still get overwritten anyway.
Thanks for any help!
