I need some help from you all.My computer has gone crazy it seems.I have purchased new machine at my place but the problem is that suddenly my machine got hanged initially it got started and my antivirus was getting updated and suddenly it crashed down it was just as if it got hanged all things came to stand still.I tried to restart the machine and a message appeared :-
Windows could not start because following file is missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32|CONFIG\SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file by restarting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

But no use friends I have tried this too. What to do now?
Do I have to Format my machine?

Well...first I'd check if the RAM is ok. You can use MemTest86+ to do that. You can download a bootable ISO from their homepage or you could just grad the Ultimate Boot-CD (google ubcd) which has a lot of tools that might come in handy later on.
In MemTest86+ you can use test 5 to get a quick check, for all I know RAM is usually ok if test 5 succeeds 2 or 3 times, however to be sure you should let it do all the test of course.
When you know you RAM is ok you should boot into the recovery console and do a chkdsk of the harddisk and see what it returns. Before you make any significant changes to the harddisk I would advise you to backup it to another drive (at least if there's really important data on it).

Edit: Here a microsoft article on that topic: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545
