Full Version: Any alternatives to HD280 Pros?

I've had a set of Sennheiser HD 280 pro headphones for about 18 months. The right side is starting to cut out, and I need to give it a "shoogle" from time to time to get the sound back. So it's time to replace them.

I very much like the sound from them, although there's a few niggles. Despite them keeping most noise out, the cable moving causes a fair bit of noise. And they can get a little warm. I don't think there's any reason to believe the heat issue could be solved - how can headphones close out noise without closing out air movement.

I'm off to the states in a few weeks, so I'll wait and buy them there since they're almost half the price.

However, I thought it'd do no harm to look at alternatives before I buy them.

I'm not prepared to spend a massive amount on them - probably no more than $120. I've had a look around and I don't see very many closed circumaural sets around.

Anyone care to point me in the direction of a few model numbers so I can do some research?

Sony V6. Love them or hate them. $60 US on Ebay. To me, they are perfect. I love them . I also have the 280's.

Edit: Not the V600. The V6. Big difference.

Thanks for the replies folks. I've had a search about and I'm still headed for the HD280s, but the important thing is I'm now a lot happier to do that.

I'm still surprised how empty the market is at around 75 dollars for closed circumaural phones.
