The playlist search window (Edit > Search) normally starts empty and fills it with tracks that 'hit' your search query. It would be very nice - and not so hard to code, I guess - if it would start out with the complete playlist and reduce the playlist to the tracks that match the search query. When the search pattern is removed from the textbox, it should return to the complete playlist.
In that way, you've actual have a new 'playlist view' with integrated search feature, which is exactly the reason why I thought of this added feature. If you add this playlist search as a UI element, you have a "playlist view" with filter function, which is the only thing I miss in foobar at the moment
I don't know how foobar is structured and how difficult it would be to code because I don't have insight in the program code, but it doesn't look very hard to me, because you almost only have to join some existing code elements...
