Full Version: ID3v2.4 tags not readable in other players

Sorry, but I have to ask. Is foobar2000 REALLY id3v2.4 compliant? If so, is there any reason why other media players aren't? (cause all foobar tagged files looks like mess in any other player. Couldn't find program that can read those tags properly.)

Yes, it seems to be as compliant as you can get. But I'm not sure what you mean by "mess" in other players...

Anyway, the bigger problem is that ID3v2.4 isn't very popular and will likely never become the de facto standard. If compatibility is a concern, enable foobar2000's ID3 'compatibility mode' so it uses ID3v2.3 and move on.

The (purposely) broken tags "compatibility mode" writes could hardly be called ID3v2.3

@xezzy
MP3tag reads ID3v2.4 tags properly, as does Rockbox.

Exactly. MP3Tag can also write ID3v2.3 tags if one needs them.

MP3tag reads those fb2k "broken tags" properly and identifies them as ID3v2.3 tags. How are they broken?
What's the difference between the tags that fb2k writes ("compatibility mode") and those written by MP3Tag (ID3v2.3)?

I'm about to clean up the tags (and tag the untagged files) in my mp3 library, not yet decided what kinda tags to use...
