After buying a Copy Protected CD once (a CDS200) and having large difficulties ripping it, I now read every word found on the CD cover for hints of Copy Protection, like computer specs.

I have just bought Babyshambles - Shotter's Nation and nowhere on the CD cover does it mention anything about Copy Protection.

I loaded it up and found these files.
OpenCD
Does anyone know what exactly are those files? EAC lists it as only 7MB in total.

When I right click start.exe -> Properties, it says it's a Macromedia Projector application. Opencd.exe shows nothing when right-clicking. I've searched Google but the OpenCD results are something to do open sourced software instead.

I dare not click on both the .exe files for fear of it installing some strange things on my computer.

The music rips ok though, with a confidence of 12.

I think it's this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enhanced_Compact_Disc
I guess "Macromedia Projector application" is just a .exe file running a flash video. If you are unsure just create a new limited user account and run it from there, this way it can't install any device drivers that might prevent ripping.
Another option might be installing VirtualBox (google, it's free). You can install a second copy of your OS there and test any suspicous stuff in this sandbox and revert it back in case you run any evil programs smile.gif

c't magazine has a database of CDs so you can check for copy protection prior to buying:

Klick on "Datenbank abfragen". I think you'll figure the rest out for yourself.

I've stumbled upon 'enhanced audio discs' like this before, too, and in my case it was nothing copy-protection related, just additional media on the disc. (A couple of video's - I think one was QuickTime and the other WMV) I was able to rip the discs fine.

But don't do anything until you're sure! Nothing worse than having some copy protection mechanism gum up your system.

Thanks for both your suggestions, I'll try VirtualBox.

I don't think it's an enhanced CD though because nothing on the cover indicates it's an enhanced CD and the data is only 7MB large, not likely would it fit a video!

I was worried about OpenCD because I've stumbled upon another software, with a very similar name - OpenDisc.
