I just found this dialog box in PsyTel aacenc. So, it seems that Ivan is preparing to make it shareware or something. It'd be interesting to know how much will such an encoder cost for a personal use and if paying for it will also settle up a problems with dolby license.

Well - if you spend some time finding PsyTEL AACEnc pre-1.0 builds, you'd notice that this dialog is in the executable from early October 2000 builds

No, AACEnc is not going to be shareware (anytime soon) - probably AACEnc in current state (command line encoder) won't be the "product" at all.

End-user market for AAC is pretty closed right now, and there are no ways to make some kind of shareware ISO aac encoder that would work according to the will of AAC patent holders.

Too bad...
The aac format won't be able to widespread without a freely (for newbies) accessible codec...
