Just about the only thing I boot into Windows for anymore is encoding. Is it possible to use the Linux version of the Nero AAC encoder in OS X (I'm running 10.5, fyi)? Can anyone give me a hand figuring out how to do so if it is?

Well the precompiled binary doesn't work (duh) and I can't find any sources so it looks like a negatory on that one.

Have you guys actually tried opening the terminal in OS X and typing the commands? AFAIK, that should work. (I'll try to test later in the week, just to be sure... my wife has a couple of OS X 10.5 machines.) Or are you simply clicking on the binary hoping to get results?

If all else fails, the win32 version could always be run under the Leopard port of Darwine.

Well, not being entirely without wits I downloaded the binary, cd'ed to the directory, ran ./neroAacEnc and got the finger.

Darwine sounds like a good option but I've never heard good things about it.

Edit:The X11 that Darwine wanted wouldn't install with Installer so I used Pacifist. The AAC encoder will open with Darwine but I can't work out the filepath for the files to be converted. I tried to get winepath but couldn't find anywhere to download it so I've pretty much given up.

Incidentally Internet Explorer just produces a blank page and I took the opportunity to try running EAC. From what I can see in the log:
CODE
err:aspi:ASPI_GetNumControllers Could not open HKLM\L"HARDWARE\\DEVICEMAP\\Scsi"

doesn't look to healthy but even if it did, my cursor disappears as soon as I move it into EAC's X11 window.

Now I remember why I hate X11 so much wink.gif

NeroAAC works flawless with Wine from the Macports Repository.

How do you work out the correct file path to enter into the command line ? I was hoping there'd be a nice online UNIX->WIN file path converter but no dice.

I've been using it through wine, that CrossOver installs. You can find wine by digging into the CrossOver.app package and just copy it anywhere in your path. Probably not the best way to do it but it works for me. Hanging out for a native copy though...
