Full Version: Kenwood receiver acting up

Just today my Kenwood KR-V107R has, out of the blue, started producing electrical hum. This is the first time I have ever had a receiver do this and my first thought went to maybe its a grounding issue, but I don't know how I could remedy it. The hum's volume doesn't seem to increase as quickly as whatever else's volume (i.e. if I raise volume enough it becomes bearable to listen to music on once the volume of the music overtakes that of the humming rolleyes.gif ). If this matters any, the hum also shows up on the spectrum readout, and is audible no matter what input I use. Does anyone have suggestions on how I can fix this?

Thanks,
Bobby

If you disconnect everything but the speakers do you still get the hum? If so then it is a component failure. If you hear it in both channels then it is most likely in the power supply.

Thanks smile.gif , I know now that the Video Out is what's causing the hum. Once I unplugged the video going into my tv, it stopped. But now I still will have the annoying hum when I want to play video games or watch movies. Is there possibly something I could do as opposed to having a shop look at it?

Don't take it to the shop just yet. This is probably just a simple ground loop problem.

I need to know what your electrical power situation is - are you 115 volt, 240 volt, what?

Has something changed recently? Plugged in something new or plugged something into a different circuit? Replaced a cable? Damaged a cable?

Try connecting to a different TV and see if that makes a difference.

Do you hear the hum when everything except the TV is unplugged from the receiver?

OK go figure, my TV was the culprit. As a testament to how finicky electronics can be, all I had to do was wiggle the video cable going into tv to stop the hum. Thanks for your help! I seem to naturally assume whenever something starts humming or acting funny that it is because its old and maybe its circuitry is getting fried tongue.gif

Glad it worked out for you.
