Full Version: Burning mp3 discs

I use Nero to burn my CDs and mp3 discs. When I burn mp3s with qualities lower than 320 kbps, they sound fine - but if I try to burn mp3s at 320 kbps, they end up having A LOT of weird noises when I play the burned discs and even when I preview them on Nero. So I usually need to downgrade my mp3s from 320 kbps to 192 or 128 kbps.

Does anyone know what might be the cause of this annoying problem?

Thanks!

Presumably, Nero's MP3 decoder.

I would use LAME to decode to WAVE before burning, ensuring no loss of quality and presumably no weird noises.

I would suggest using Burrrn (uses Lame as a decoder) instead of Nero.

thanx for the replies!

what if I want to burn a mp3 disc (for playing in a cd player that plays mp3s) instead of an audio CD? What can I do to eliminate weird noises?

NB: Good idea about Burrrn BTW, I would agree.

If you don't hear the weird noises when playing on PC then the Nero decoder is somehow creating them. If you are simply burning MP3s to a data CD to play on some player then it's down to the MP3 decoder that your player uses as to whether you get weird noises again. One would presume that you wouldn't.

Do they play fine on PC? Are they definately 320kbps and not free format?

They play fine on PC using Winamp/windows media player, etc. There are weird noises only when I preview them on Nero (and that also foreshadows problems if I still insist on burning them into mp3 discs). I only encounter problems with 320 kbps... so it's Nero's decoder that's causing the problem? What can i do to fix that...?

thanx.

If you're burning mp3 (data) discs, there is no decoder involved. Are you sure you're not re-encoding the files when you are burning the disc?

that's really weird... i just add my mp3 files onto a Nero list and then click "burn"... that's all i do.

How much space do the files take up on the disc. Can you only fit a dozen or so or is it more like a hundred?

But we're most likely talking about decoding by Nero, because he wrote:

Don't preview and trust your (lame?) encoder smile.gif I have never felt need for previewing audio files inside Nero (to be honest, I have never seen such a function, but maybe you use the easy interface)...
BTW, what is an mp3 disc? Nero terminology? Is it still an mp3 disc if I put a flac file on it? Or a text file? wink.gif

Erm. In a previously post you wrote you are previewing.

I usually preview them on Nero because if I hear noises while previewing them, and still go ahead and burn them into into an audio CD, the CD comes out exactly like the preview - the same weird noises and hisses.

i don't know if i'm using the right terminology but i always call them "mp3 discs" - meaning using the "burn an mp3 disc" (as opposed to "burn a CD") function and playing it in a CD-player that can play mp3.

i guess something's just wrong somewhere in my computer...

Okay, so you are creating a data disc containing mp3's files that can be played back in a cd player that also has an mp3 decoder. Why don't you try creating a regular data disc in nero and dragging the mp3's over and see if the problems persist.
