Similar to this image...

I've been trying to display [artist album year genre] together next to the first few songs of an album

Problem is many of my albums don't start on track "1" or any track, so
"$select(%tracknumber%, 1st line, 2nd, 3rd, etc" doesn't work at all

And it seems i cant use variables to store & compare album names, so I've no idea : (

(And how do they make a horiz line divider between albums?)

The screenshot you're looking at is from a very old version of foobar2000. Since 0.9.5, the Default UI has supported grouping. Right-click on the Playlist view header and choose your grouping mode. It's not precisely what you're asking for, but very close.

ill probably stick with columns ui though : /

edit: just noticed the columns ui "NG playlist" allows grouping, which is perfect : )
