Hello. So I've had a few problems here the last couple of weeks. My HD with all of my tracked, trance MP3's died. So I tried taking all of the single file MP3's off my Ipod and split them into individual tracks because the Ipod now supports gapless. Well, nothing splits them perfectly. Now I'm trying to re-rip my entire trance collection again and I can't get Plextools Pro XL to rip them gaplessly to MP3.

Here's the details. I've tried using Plextools Pro XL versions 3.13, 3.12 and 3.10. I've tried LAME versions 3.96, 3.97 and 3.98 BETA. I've tried checking "Check Gaps" and unchecking it. No luck. My two drives are a Plextor 760A and a Plextor Premium. Both have the latest firmware and neither can rip them gapless. However, when I rip them to FLAC or WAV, they are perfectly gapless.

OK, I just ripped the same disc using Foobar2k and it ripped perfectly gapless. However, I'm unsure of Foobars ability to rip some of the disc as they are in bad shape. So that makes me wonder is it LAME and Vista or Plextools and Vista. BTW, I have Vista Ultimate x64.

Has anyone else ran into this problem?

Thanks!

BTW, I should mention that previously, I ripped them all using Plextools Pro XL and LAME 3.96 on my XP pro machine and they were fine.

Foobar2k would be using LAME.exe via the command line interface I presume and will simply pass it a command line. LAME defaults to storing gapless info, so clearly it can't be LAME and Vista that don't work together.

I'm not familiar with Plextools but perhaps it's not sending a normal command line to LAME. You might find out using the Properties tab in foobar2k to see the encoding parameters for a Plextools-generated MP3.

Plextools seems ideal for a Plextor owner because of their renowned accurate C2 error information, but Exact Audio Copy is also a good option which supports AccurateRip (also dBpowerAmp does this) and could provide a highly secure ripping option with proper LAME gapless support. That's if Plextools is the problem.
