My LG dvd drive is not working. Will need to get a new one. I will need one with dvd rw function, any to recommend?

if you have SATA connections i would recommend the Samsung SH-S203B

Pioneer DVR-115 (IDE) / DVR-215 (SATA)

I use Samsung, BenQ, NEC/Optiarc and Pioneer. Of the four, I find the Pioneers (I have two) to be the best allrounders.

Some older BenQ drives were very good; some were sold as Plextor or Sony with different faceplates and firmware. (People were buying $40 BenQ drives and flashing them with Plextor firmware, or vice versa, depending on which firmware was better.)

Make a note of what models are on sale locally, then do a search for reviews and see which are the best. Check inside the "house brand" generic boxes, because there may be a decent name brand drive inside.

Or, if you don't mind spending more $, consider getting a Blu-ray/DVD combo drive. LG has one that reads HD-DVD as well as Blu-ray, the GGC-H20L, for under $200. (It's SATA)

I've had no problems with my Lite-On LH-18A1P. I've used it for DAE, for playing DVD movies, and to burn DVD-RAM discs. I have also flashed it to be a RPC-1 drive.

The successors to this drive are the LH-20A1S for SATA and the LH-20A1P for PATA.

Agreed, this is a nice drive and what I am using in my new PC.

Another vote for the Samsung SH-S203B... excellent ripping drive with EAC, better than my trusty old Plextor 40x even.

I bought a SH-S203D based on the recommendation here. Can't complain so far.
