Just a curiosity.

I know, there are lots of alternative players there to play FLAC files decently. But one thing crosses my head:
We know that illiminable's ogg directshow filter is the best to handle FLAC on WMP, but... Why FLAC can't be plaied gaplessly on WMP? Some technical limitations on WMP or what?

Thanks for clarifying it out.

Well, y'all know alot more than I aobut playing FLAC files in WMP. Ho the hell do you add the CODEC? I've been to the following sites:

1. http://www.carltonbale.com/2006/01/flac-mu...s-media-center/
2. http://www.xiph.org/dshow/
3. http://www.losslessaudioblog.com/wmpmce-lossless-guide/
4. http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=9780
5. http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?ti...g-in_properties

Can someone with first hand experience and more importantly, knowledge, break this down for me and tell me how to play FLAC in WMP. Does one of the above five websites tell it correctly? I don't want to add WinAmp simply because I need a jukebox for one file format. That's rediculous. As a jukebox, WMP sounds fine. It must be configurable, although I stupidly wasted time and money today with Windows having my grimy opinion of Microsoft reinforced.

Hi,

I am pretty new to playing FLAC using Windows Media Player myself. So far I have used MediaMonkey as software and SONOS + Squeezebox as stand-alone players.

Anyway, I am now planning to work on a(nother) HTPC and for ease of remote controlling I (like you) want to use WMP/MCE for playing FLAC.

For testing I just installed Illiminable's ogg directshow filter codecs on my laptop (simply downloaded the newest "unstable" pack and used default settings, i.e. typed yes to everything during installation). After that I installed WMPTagSupportExtender (same way). Nothing else!

Now FLAC appears to run in WMP11 fairly well. But since I did all this only 15 min. ago I've probably not tried out everything ;-)

Now I hope I can get Windows Media Center to play FLAC (and show Tags) as easily.

Hi,

Just found this site as well: http://www.dsp-worx.de/?n=15

Maybe, that'll also work. Did anyone try that one?

All of the DirectShow FLAC filters drop frames with the exception of the above linked DC-Bass filter. When audio support via DirectShow was added to ImgBurn this issue came up.
