Hi all,

I have searched for these answers here with no luck so here goes:

1) When using iTunes LAME (2.0.9 LAME 3.97) does itunes add the meta tag to the file or is it actually created by the LAME encoder?

2) After encoding with lame alt preset extreme, some of the bit rates in itunes show up as lower the the usual range of alt preset extreme. Is this normal or is it just how iTunes reads the file info?

Thanks

Which meta tag? The artist, title etc will be set by iTunes LAME.

LAME standard settings are VBR, so the end bitrate will vary from song to song depending how easy it is to encode.

Thanks for your reply. I know LAME uses VBR, I just did not know that with -V 0 the bitrate could drop below the bitrate range, which is listed on the Hydrogen Audio LAME Wiki, which says that the bitrate range for -V 0 is 220 - 260 with a target Kbit/s of 245. Also, I was pretty sure that iTunes-LAME actually added the tag because I notice that iTunes normally adds ID3v2.2 tags while all of the ones from iTunes-LAME are v2.4. Just clarifying! Thanks again!
