Full Version: E-MU 0404: how do I balance the line inputs?

My E-MU 0404 has 2 mono inputs instead of 1 stereo input, each with its own preamp/volume control.

How do I make sure that both lines are set to the same value? The controls don't "click" at 0db/Unity, so I can't guarantee that they're both exactly 0. Are there programs to help me do this?

You can use RMAA to do this pretty quickly. Just run a loop(connect output jacks to input jacks) and start up RMAA(freeware) and click the bottom left button and you will get a screen showing relative levels(dB) between both channels. You don't have to do the actual test routine - just use the level set at the beginning for your purpose.

But then won't I have to adjust the levels manually? I'll never get it perfect if I have to use the analog controls!

Is there a similar program that also attenuates one of the lines digitally?

Thanks for the help!

I'm not aware of anything for this. I run into the same issue and I generally just ignore it unless it becomes an issue.
