Full Version: Ripping to include Index Mark Info

Is there a way (or software) to rip a CD to tracks that includes the data for index marks?

I have a Sound Effect CD that has 12 tracks and 102 individual sounds, and they are each deliminted by an index mark.

For example: Track 5 is Trains
Index 1 is Train passing by (:15)
Index 2 is Diesel Train idling (:22)
Index 3 is Steam train starting up and moving (:41)
Index 4 is Passing Train Whistle (:12)
etc. etc.

I usually use EAC to rip, but I don't seem to be getting the index data in to the ripped track. I have tried several formats (usually rip to FLAC.) and methods (track, whole disk, time section)

I tried using Sound Forge as it has an option for to "create markers for each index change" but I don't get the markers.

The hardware I'm using is either a Plextor PX-800A or a TSST SH-S162L. (tried both)
No, I am not 100% sure that the index marks are actually on the CD, but all the documentation sure thinks they are.

The ultimate goal is to be able to split the tracks semi-automatically at the index points and have individual resulting files for each effect. It makes managing them easier in the sound cue software I'm using instead of having to define begin and ending time which doesn't always work well due to a "limitation" in the program.

I've searched here and the web and not found much of help. Anyone here have any ideas?

Thanks!

Can you skip to these marks on a stand alone player?

I believe that I have played this on the Sony CDPD11 at the theater and indexes were there and it worked ok, but I am not 100% sure if it was this particular disk or another one like it (that I do not have now.)

I am going to take it up and double check later today.

The CD insert says the following: "This CD features the renowned retrieval system that allows you to instantly access each effect. The random access feature that allows this instantaneous selection is as important a development as CD technology itself. Each effect has been precisely coded with a number. Using the random access feature selector on your CD player will let you punch in this number and give you access to that particular sound no matter where it lies on the CD track. Cueing is now as easy as pushing a button."

That is really what it says on the back of the CD. They are pretty full of themselves-- I just hope they aren't full of something else.

In EAC:

That worked perfectly! Thanks!

It took only about five minutes to type in the index names for tags.
It also copied index 0 on each track (the gap) but that sure wasn't a problem.
All of the tracks came out a bit longer (3-4 sec) than the CD insert says, but they are consistent, and I listened to all of them and they are fine.

If this isn't in the EAC documentation, how can I help get it in? (I searched and looked and couldn't find it.)

Again, thanks! (and happy Flag Day if you are in the US)
