Pressing F5 doesn't update covers if they have been changed or added to existing music folders. Shouldn't it?
lewis22
Thanks guys smile.gif

I also have another problem where artwork seems to be displayed for each track or there just seems to be an infinite amount of covers:

IPB Image

How do I get this to just show a cover for each album found in the library? For example, if there was one album in the library then Chronflow displays just one album cover and no more. Also is anti-aliasing of the font planned?
minibadger
Chronflow rocks my socks, but I have only one problem.

I'd like to use a source other than those in my Media Library.

I have my Media Library very, very carefully sorted, and this is what's used for my normal Foobar album view. However, I also have a "random misc playlist" singles view, which is usually music from a "misc crap" folder that I don't at all want mixed in with my carefully-sorted, pre-screened stuff.

Chronflow can't fetch album art from anything inside the "crap" folder. Is there a way to do this?

To get that you have to do an hard reload (hotkey: ctrl+f5) - that will empty the cache and reload all the files.

@lewis22
The screenshot actually shows no covers - just as the text says "no covers loaded". You should check you source filter.
The font is anti-aliased the same way IE/Firefox (and every other windows app) does. If the font size is small it will not be anti-aliased to keep the font sharp.

Not possible. Media Library is a core concept of foobar, that you cannot get around when using such a component.
But there is a right way to do it: add the random crap to your library, and set the album view to ignore these tracks.

Thanks, I somehow missed that.

In the wiki, section Maximum Texture Size, there's a mention of two-stage shrinking, and it's advised to set that parameter to the final displayed size of the covers. But I'm experiencing that perceived quality just increases the higher this parameter is.

Examples:
200px
http://image.bayimg.com/pajljaabp.jpg

256px
http://image.bayimg.com/pajlkaabp.jpg

512px
http://image.bayimg.com/pajllaabp.jpg

(note the inscription Slow Gin at the bottom of the image)
Cover file image resolution is 494x500, final image size is around 200, give or take 2 pixels.

And if putting in right value does provide better image quality under some circumstances, isn't there a way to somehow attain that value automatically after the display configuration is chosen and panel is initialized (or resized)?
Chronial
Your GPU sees to round down to powers of 2 (hence the extreme quality difference between 200vs256 - it's acutally 128vs256). As far as I can see, the 256px version is the one that is correctly resized.
The 512px setting is only subjective better, because the font is sharper. The reason for this is that the render-resize method is the same as paint uses (just resize a selection in paint) - it produce quite crappy results, but extremely sharp crappy results wink.gif.
You can see that the font is equally strong at the 256px version, but at the 512px version there are stronger and softer parts (eg. the corners of the "S" are barely visible).

There is a way, but it would suck smile.gif. There are 3 problems:
1. which cover should I measure? The selected one would be the obvious answer, but there are cases in which this might not be the best choice (remember: cover display is 100% customizable - you could set the center cover to 1x1 px).
2. The rule of thumb mentioned in the wiki is only true if the cover is not distorted a lot. If it is, results may vary a lot, and there is no way to calculate that.
3. Everytime this setting is changed the whole cache has to be reloaded. This is very slow on some systems. But on every resize the ideal cover size changes. So you have to chose one size and say "I want the covers to look best at this size". This choice can only be done by the user.
lewis22
Thanks Chronial but it still does this even if there are covers loaded. It shows loads of the same cover.
Chronial
Then your sources setup is messed up. You might have something like group by: %artist% - %album%. Then multiple artist albums will get an extra cover for every artist.

I'm not sure which one is more correct, 256 or 512, but I think you're wrong about my GPU and the powers of two. I've tried to vary the setting between two consecutive powers of two, and the displayed picture changes with every new value.

1&2: Why not let the value be (re)defined in scripts?
3: You could make an option like "automatically reload covers when panel is resized", so that when it's disabled, the panel would keep the old cache until manual reload.
I think most people will prefer to wait, if it means they'll get the best possible looking covers. We rarely ever resize panels anyway.

Also, there's no good way to know the exact value from outside the program, especially with distorted covers and such.

Updated drivers, got it working, but I'd like to sort by album artist, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Everything about this plugin works very nicely, except for a small annoyance. The horizontal slider in Chronflow settings for text positioning seems to be impossible to adjust to exactly 50%; it would be nice if the percent displayed next to it was editable. It's really not that big of a deal and doesn't affect anything much at all, but it is a bit annoying when the text is a little off.

Use the keyboard arrow pad to adjust it accurately smile.gif

hello guys, I start using Chronflow from half a year ago, great plugin, but there is one thing bothering me

is there anyway I can sort the album by folder or directory?

I think I can change it under the option of album source,

group by option

but I am not sure what code should put in =_=..... don't want to mess it up, so want to ask for the real code
(i have been looking for the way to be sort by folder for a while, but can't find it, and realy really don't want to mess it up)

=====================================================================

nvm..... found the code, took the risk.. and happy that it works

the code is simply

%directoryname%

Still unable to get "add to playlist" to work as an option in chronflow. It's completely unresponsive. Everything else seems to work. I don't have this trouble when I'm middle clicking within my Album List.

i'm really sorry if you've answered this before, but is it possible for chronflow to only show artwork for the currently selected artist? So when i open foobar, all the albums will show up in chronflow, but if i click an artist, i would only see their albums in chronflow?

Thanks

Hello, I’m a new user of Foobar2000 (0.9.5.5) since last week.
I only use the “Default User Interface” with "Album List" – I did only a short switch to Columns UI, but I don’t like the look.

Now I’d like to test chronflow (foo_chronflow.dll 0.3.0), but nothing happens.
In Preferences I can see chronflow, but whatever I do, nothing happens - at two very different PC’s - I can’t see anything what has to do with chronflow.

Isn’t there a checkbox “activate” or so?

As I can not tell from your message, just thought I would confirm that you are aware the chronflow is not a DUI element.

Would it be possible to make chrnoflow work as a filter ? Like if I select a Genre and Artist with the CUI filters, chronflow would only display albums from this artist, and if I click on one of the albums it would send it to the "Filter Result" playlist ?

Well actually I got the second part, but I can't get it to display only what has been filtered, it always displays all my database...

Thanx !

Hi:

I am trying to use chronflow, but so far to no avail.
When I add chronflow as a panel to my layout (either as part of a Tab or on top of
Panel Stack Splitter), I get the following error message:

TexLoader: Can't Set The Pixel Format

And after I clicked on the confirm button, it says

ImgTexture Leak: 10

Any idea?

I am using Radeon 800 graphics card. Thanks in advance.

Update your gfx drivers to the latest version. If that doesn't help you are probably screwed.

2. Keyboard commands are not read.
no matter what key i press, none have a function, not even the enter command.

Hi, is this component still under development, and if so, has there been any update since v0.3.0 ?

I haven't found any official Chronflow thread yet. And IMHO this thread can't be considered an official one, since it hasn't been started by Chronial so he can't update the link in the first post when he wants to...

It would be good to finally have a place where we could always download the latest update. Thanks !

The last infos I have are, that this is still under development... well say at least not abandoned^^ This is the latest version which is available afaik!
And it's not that difficult to update the first post if chronial wants to (ask a mod or PM the OP (or open an new thread^^))

Hi guys. I got the cover flow installed and displaying covers with the default setup, but I cannot get it to scroll left/right for the life of me. Every once in awhile it will jump to a different album. Any ideas? Do I need anything else besides this component for it to work properly? I am on 100% clean foobar2000 0.9.5.6. It seems to hog down my system quite drastically. Also, if I just play an album it will jump there maybe after 30 seconds of thinking.

Hi:

Just one curious observation. Chronflow takes a lot of memory. Usually on the order of 200 MB. Is there anyway to scale down the memory usage of it?
Harun
^reduce the number of covers being rendered maybe? (make the range of numbers in the 'drawcovers' function smaller

just my guess

Your GPU drivers suck. Update them. If it doesn't help, your screwed.

It is by design of this component to eat a lot of memory, as it has to cache a lot of images in memory. But you can tune all the settings in the preferences (performance tab). Explanation are given on the help page.

Oh I see you are a very enthusiastic developer.

I have to correct my statement above, NONE of the albums can be played by this plugin.
not by assigned mousebutton command, not by right click menu. simply nothing happens. I tried reinstalling- it's the same.

I consider deinstalling this plugin again if all is my fault, just like the bubble cover flow (which needed the option "playback follows cursor" and only played mp3 albums for me)

EDIT
I just installed this plugin on the other computer....and it works (playing works).
The configs are 95% the same....hmmm weird, how can it be that everything works except the play command?.

EDIT2
ok it works NOT. after deep testing it is clear that the "play" command only works on "single track albums" (which are no albums but badly tragged mp3s..).
most albums consist of multiple files and the only way to play them is by sending them to a playlist.unfortunately you cannot select to which with this plugin. so your current playlist will be overwritten. sad.gif
future request: select to which playlist to add automatically.

I just wanted to say that the problem is not on the side of chronflow, but rather somewhere in your setup or your understanding of this plugin or foobar.
And you are right - I am not an enthusiastic supporter.

This is the behavior of the "play" command (which is not part of chronflow). See here: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....st&p=555569

well thank you then and excuse me too.

Maybe you should put a readme in your zip mentioning this, for me it is clear now but I might not be the only one getting confused, and expecting others to read till page 11 ... hmmm biggrin.gif

I found a workaround for that what I wanted (until there is an option for default "send to list x")

---enter a constant string as album name display titleformating (I use "Library view" - same playlist for Albumlist-tracks)

---disable album name displaying

---you need one of the mousebuttons assigned to "Add to NEW playlist"

Effect: you can play your albums without losing the content of your current playlist.

Wouldn't it then be possible to add the option to run the "play" command on the first track of the selected album? This would have the desired effect and seems quite feasible to me.

Say, Chronial, have you ever thought about adding playlist viewer functionality to this component?

Imagine: browsing your albums like you currently do, then finding the one you want to play double-clicking on its cover - which turns it around (and possibly zooms to fill the window) to show the tracks (as if in was the back of a CD case with a tracklist). Which has the regular (possibly customizable) single-column playlist structure like the ELPlaylist, late PanelsUI etc., along with the necessary playback controls.

Wouldn't it be the niftiest universal component? True, it would not be very suitable for compiling long playlists (longer than one album), but I'm sure lots of folks still listen to their music the old way - choosing one particular album to play.
Chronial
Just double-click and you have that album in your playlist. This component will never be a playlist viewer.

But turning covers around to see a tracklist is on the todo list.
elenhil
Wouldn't making the tracklist interactive be a logical thing? What you see is what you play, so to speak. Might I inquire as to your reasoning?

A quick question! (Had some issues, but installing windows scripting host, doing a fresh java install and nuking unnecessary foobar plugins seems to have done the trick!).

1. No way to just start playing the first or a random track of a selected album? There is a "Play" command, but it only works with albums containing one track.
I don't see how one can effectively use chronoflow to find and start playing music together with using playlists: adding to the current playlist messes up your playlist, replacing nukes your playlist and adding to a new playlist creates a mess. Enlighten me smile.gif
Parsi

At the moment there is no other solution. The next version will fix that issue, but you will have to wait till then (expect at least a couple more months).

Superb smile.gif It's already good, I just use a temp playlist if I want to select albums through chronflow, but I'm looking forward to the next version. Keep up the good work.
