Full Version: Can't detect Optical Drive

Hi everybody.

I am on a Thinkpad T61 with Windows Vista Home Premium. The laptop uses an ejectable ultrabay DVDRAM drive.
CDex and other programs, such as Mediamonkey, are unable to detect my DVD drive. After running CDex with elevated priveleges, no drive shows up in the drop-down menu. In Mediamonkey, I get a "No Audio CD was found. Please insert Audio CD" message when I attempt to rip or access freedb data for a CD. Similar problems occur for other programs I've tried in the past.

Windows Media Player and Zune software (both Microsoft) can detect, play, and rip CDs just fine.
I used to have Daemon Tools and MagicISO, but have since uninstalled them so there should not be any virtual drives causing a conflict.

I can't figure out what the problem is. Any solutions or help would be appreciated.

Have you tried foobar2000?

Thanks, Canar. I just tried foobar2000. It's able to Play and Rip CDs just fine.
I like foobar so far, but I would still like to solve my original problem.

Is there a difference in the way some software interface with the optical drive that allows some programs to work but not others?
