My vote goes to SV7. biggrin.gif

When it will be ready.
It's not predicted to be released soon.

Is 4.0 planned as major update, or it will just be 4.0 because 3.xx.(x) version numbering will run out wink.gif

Judging by Takehiro's code, it will be a major update.

Mine too (since it's already been out for a while - you must mean SV8 unsure.gif).

All this integer numbers! They're so sophisticated!
Yes, i think, you're right, I meant SV8 (if 8 is after 7) tongue.gif

Who´s this Takehiro fellow?
Does he post here?
What´s his nickname?
Why is his work always referred to as some kind of major event?

A LAME dev.

Because he's one of the only people that actually makes major changes to the codebase, particularly the psymodel. The other major dev involved in this was Naoki, but he has long since disappeared from the scene it seems.
LordofStars
He is a lame developer. He does most of the work on the psymodel although his work is not limited to this. He has posted in here in the past but I do not think he posts here anymore. It is often refered to as a major updated because it is that. A major revamping of new code and deletion of deprecated code.

Seems I 've been beaten to teh punch...

See this URL. He used to post here once, but I think he felt the Hydrogenaudio board users here were rude, so I guess he left Hydrogenaudio. If I remember right, he used the nickname "takehiro". Takehiro Tominaga is probably one of the developers responsible for most of the changes in the LAME code these days (not that I'm too familiar with LAME's development, it's just an impression I have from what I have seen here). He's not alone with trying to improve LAME these days though, there are others, like f.ex. Gabriel.

Thank you Dibrom.
I asked about the nickname just because I have been reading this forum almost daily for the last two months and a half and I don't rrecall ever reading something posted by Takehiro.
And there's also the almost automated reponse when someone asks about the future of Lame: "wait for Takehiro's code" (is there anywhere where they detail why is his work so great?)
I just got curious.
But you are right, anyway.

edit: Nevermind.
(Whoa! fast response! telepathy?)
LordofStars
Because several devs have stated that mp3s could get better but would require psymodel improvements. Takehiro is bringing this.

Bitrates below 128 due to substep noiseshaping and interchannel masking. Should be better across all bitrates due to an improved psymodel. Better at precho due to improved shortblock switching. Just better. Its all I know. We'll have to wait to find out.

Takehiro hasn't "left HA". He still visits almost daily #hydrogenaudio irc channel, and you can spot him reading HA quite often, if you look who is online. But like most devs, he prefers mailing lists, and of course especially Lame developers mailinglist

Maybe there was some dispute some time ago, which brought some tension between Dibrom and Lame devs, but at least I have excellent relationship with Tak, and I don't think the former dispute is the real reason why he isn't posting at the moment. Like many of us, he's quite busy, and he prefers coding instead of talking, and most of the pure code related discussion happens at the developers mailinglist.

Gabriel is also doing a good job, and seems that he has taken the "communicator" role and is trying to make the new presets a reality, which is nice.

I also believe this to be a very good thing especially since he is doing such a good job. To have the new lame updated with new presets that reflect the new capabilites.
