For those of you who know Mobile Fidelity, are they going to rerelease some of their previous works (American Beauty, Ziggy Stardust, Abbey Road...) on the Gold Ultradisc CD? Have they done this before?

Mobile Fidelity seldom revisits titles they have previously released. Not to say it's impossible, but (especially in the case of the titles you mention) extremely unlikely.

Most of the deals MOFI had only allowed them to release discs for a limited time, so re-releasing would need to renegotiate licenses.

(btw, didn't MOFI gone bankrupt a few years ago?)

They did, but seemingly started up again later.

Yes, they were bought by Acoustic Sounds I believe and have started to release many titles in the last several years. They just RE-released Santana - Abraxas which they had done back in their hay-day. I thought I read somewhere they were going to do the 3 Rush titles again along with some others. Could have been just a rumor but who knows. They are also releasing all of the Frank Sinatra albums on gold cd, which they did the Sinatra catalog before but were released on vinyl and not cd.

So who knows how much of their back catalog they'll redo? It all has to do with licensing and whether the record labels that own the music are willing to lease the rights out to MoFi for a period of time. And like has been said before, getting more and more unlikely for most titles.

Hmm... Well, Mofi is the only way to avoid dynamic compression; hopefully the loudness war will end soon. Lastly, what's the difference between UD1 and UD2?

Usually not a good idea to quote the Steve Hoffman site here unless you are looking for a laugh, especially one that starts out as this one did. After reading the first page I can't be bothered to read the other 18. Did anyone actually verify that the PCM data was different between the two pressings as promised?

For those who cherish MFSL as a safe bastion from DRC, you may want to consider what they do in terms of equalization.

This one was the best:

QUOTE

Chris M: The Meddle UD and UDII are digitally identical.
Gary: Yet they sound different.
Raxel: [...] please dont' use "digital identical" for reasoning that two cds should sound same.
Dave: [...] That would be fine except I've heard the differences on an $800 CDP and a $2500, formerly $5000, CDP and the other members that hear the differences are running different CDP's along with different systems.
