Hi

This is my first post biggrin.gif

I have some high resolution FLAC files - 24 bit 96 KHz 5.1 that I want to author onto a DVD and play on my home theater system.

I have attempted to convert the files from 5.1 to Stereo using Foobar as I can't seem to author them otherwise. I have tried using the FLAC Level 5 encoding preset, and the WAV preset - the WAV preset gave me a higher bitrate.

Is there a better way of doing this?? unsure.gif

I have attempted to author the files in their original 24 bit 96 KHz 5.1 form, directly to DVD Audio. However, it hasn't been working for me, and I really want to maintain the high fidelity.

The thing is for 5.1/96kHz files LPCM (wav) must first be compressed with MLP (Meridian Lossless Packing).
MLP encoder(s) can only be found commercially and are expensive. And make it worse, the same holds for DVD-A authoring software which can handle MLP files (Discwelder Chrome, Sonic).

Without all this you could resample to 48kHz, that would be better than downfolding to stereo, presuming you have a 5.1 setup.
