If you want to use Winamp (2.x), you can use my MP3 Output plugin (hasn't been updated for 1 year+). The only bad thing about it is that the ID3 tagging is messed up (files get tagged with the next file's info) and there's no --alt-preset support. Hmm, maybe I should add --aps support and release a new version - the only thing is that Winamp 2.x is "obsolete" (even though I think it's better than the current version of WA3).

Well if you could put in some --ap(f)s support (with user-defined lowpass and/or -Y switch, pretty please) I'd be one happy camper. I use Winamp's diskwriter to spit out DSP'd wavs for portable-player MP3-ing, but if you can help me skip a step by updating your plugin, I'll give you a big wet one!

Don't worry about "obsolete"... I'm using and will be use WA2.x in nearest predictible future, and many others people too I think.

Any idea how to convert old Amiga mods to mp3?

In XMPlay you can use lame (lame.exe) as external WAVE output device and use the commandline you want, e.g. --alt-preset standard %s %d. You can convert a whole playlist with a few mouseclicks. smile.gif

ModPlug Player is a very good module player (very good audio quality, supports many formats, freeware). It don't encode MP3s but you can save mods as WAVs and you can encode 'em with Lame.

Please, don't use this crappy Winamp 2 mod plugin!
It plays music absolutely wrong! Believe me as a person, who played with tracker music for several years and even tried to write his own (I know, how my music should sound and how it sounds)...
XMPlay is the most accurate way to convert MODs to MP3s, ModPlug goes second (Don't use High quality resampling, it kills high frequencies) and damned winamp plugin should not be used at all (maybe, only special bass versions, but they're worse, than XMP).

Thank you all for your ideas. I'll try XMPlay and ModPlug surely.

About WA2.x : there are some plugins which can play mods (not only the built one), I think that not all of them are crap?!

Anyway, it would be nice and useful to have updated MP3 output plugin for WA2.x smile.gif

The last question. I have some old mods from my Amiga time but are there any places on the net where I can download modules?(old and maybe the new?) Personally I know the only one such a place - Aminet.

Try modarchive, there are lots of modules.
Besides, there are projects, like demoscene.ru (it also exists in English).
And finally, take a look at my signature: www.hugi.de. It's a scene magazine, so guess what? smile.gif Right. Download the mag: there are tunes already smile.gif Besides, you could easily fin? useful links there.
About WA: bass plugin or oldschool mod plugin.

What is your opinion of foobar2000 playback quality? Does it plays .XM files properly? .IT ?

I have many old files as well, i should check that site.

Thanks for your patience SacRat smile.gif

I don't know about Foobar's plugin, as I don't use it.

What about Winamp, I guess this plugin was created by Peter. He's a good plugin writer, but this one was the worst of his works.
I've also installed a "SurfSmurf's oldsch00l MOD player", but I haven't tested it extensively, so be careful.

I store all my tracker music inside ZIP or RAR files and XM plays them well without a need to unpack files first, too lazy to test Winamp or Foobar's plugins again. Just use XMPlay to be sure, that your music would be played correctly.

I'd not used Foobar for that at least now, as there are very few good tracker engines out there.

You can download some plugins for playing compressed mods with XMPlay.
