Hello everyone,

I recently downloaded the Nero AAC encoder but I can't seem to run it. When I click on the .exe files, extracted from the zip file, a window flashes on the screen for a moment and then disappears.

This is on the nero site:

"In order to use the software, download the archive and save it to a folder on your hard drive.
The software contains a command line Nero AAC Codec without a graphical user interface. The applications must be retrieved either from the command prompt, batch file, or from the "Run" command in Microsoft® Windows™ start menu."

I have no idea what it means by using the run command from the start menu I can't even see Nero on the start menu or in the 'All Programs' section, it's in a folder on the desktop.

I'm really sorry if the answer to this problem is incredibly obvious. . .

I am using windows Vista if that is important in any way (being Vista and all laugh.gif).

gun2.gif <- Best smiley ever, couldn't resist.

I got to go atm but I'll check on this thread later, plz. help!

It's a command line encoder.
Other programs call upon the .exe file and send command lines to it, telling it what to do. You don't necessarily open it yourself (by double clicking), it's more of a plugin of sorts.
It is only opening for a split second because it doesn't have anything to do (since you haven't sent any commands).
Most programs (dbpoweramp, EAC, CDex, foobar2k) will ask you to download the neroAacEnc.exe so that said program can convert into the AAC/M4A audio format.

Example: Right click a song in foobar2k > convert > Choose Nero AAC. You then set the quality to what you want. Pretend I left it in the middle (0.5)
It will ask you to point to neroAacEnc.exe. When you do, foobar2k will send a command line based on the settings I chose earlier (for example; -q .5 -ignorelength -if - -of "[outfile]") which tells the encoder what bitrate/quality you want the outputted file to be.
