I appear to be in the minority, in that I actually *don't* like that alternating background color for different lines in playlists and similar. Now, I predominantly use Columns UI, so this isn't a significant problem for me, but I do make regular use of the Album List and Library Search windows, which take their display cues from the Default UI display settings, and which *also* have those alternating line colors.

So is there a way to switch that off in the Default UI? (I am already aware that I need to switch to the Default UI to affect any of its color and font settings.) I poked around a bit, but couldn't find one.

No, it's not possible (other than choosing a sufficiently dark color as background, so that the alternating stripes becomes invisible).

Ah well, another thing for the wish list I suppose. Obviously not any sort of priority. What would *really* be nice is if the appearance of features like Album List and Library Search could be configured independently of the Default UI, though I'm not sure whether that's a request for the core program or for the development of Columns UI.
