@DocBeard: Are you sure you are not confusing random with shuffle?
First thing I checked.
At first I assumed this to just be Columns UI functionality, but then I saw in one of the earlier posts about this issue that Columns UI was listed among the components. (The previous button behaves as expected when I have the Default UI enabled, though, which leads me to believe that it's *something* to do with Columns UI).
Okay, this is very weird. It's not doing it any more. I swear it was, though, and I swear it was in Random (not Shuffle) mode. I'll see if I can't replicate it again.
(Further Edit -- I can never remember if this is one of the several fora I visit that frowns on double posting, so better safe than...less safe. Anyway.)
I've replicated it. It's definitely a Columns UI quirk. To make this happen, you need to have a customized button bar. Go in, remove the previous button and re-add it and move it to the top of the list without getting out of the custom button screen at all. The effect seems to only persist until you change the playback order, though; I've, uh, gone for a long while without changing out of random playback mode.
