Hi all,

I've been using the default UI with Facets for awhile now, but decided to give Columns UI another try. With a little tinkering I've been able to get everything the way I want, except the filters. I currently have 2 filters (Artist, Album) and I'm trying to get the Album filter to sort by date, instead of alphabetically. I've tried using "Album;Date", "Date;Album" and I've also tried using a third filter specifically for the date and still the album filter is sorted alphabetically. I know I can use "%Date% - %Album%" and its sorted the way I want, but I don't want the date to be visible. Any ideas? huh.gif

Thanks in advance

You can't sort by something that's not shown. I'm not sure where you're putting things like "Album;Date," but if you're putting it in the list of filters, that means you'll be displaying both years and album names in the same panel.

Hi Zarkon,

I'm putting the "Album;Date" and other entries under the Columns UI\Filter tab in the field box. When I use, for example, "Album;Date" it doesn't show the album names and dates, just the album names. When I used facets I would have 3 facets (filters) but only 2 could be seen. I had an "Artist", "Date", and "Album" facet in that order but the "Date" facet was completely minimized between "Artist" and "Album". So, even when All Artists was highlighted I would see Band A's albums in the album facet in chronological order, then Band B's albums would be below, also in chronological order; so on and so forth. I tried the same thing with Columns UI's filter feature but no matter what I do the albums are in alphabetical order.

I can get a comparison screen shot if it would help.

I know it may not seem like a big deal but I've been using chronological order for years so I feel completely lost now.

Any other comments/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

When you put multiple fields in a single Filter entry, it doesn't show the second/subsequent field entries if the first one is available. Since the album field is available for all of your tracks, the Date field is ignored (I was unaware of this behavior when I posted the above reply).

But my original point still stands, I think -- what's displayed in the Filter panel is what it sorts by. If you don't display the date by something like %date% - %album%, it's not going to be sorted. You've probably noticed that Filter doesn't have the "multiple columns" functionality of Facets, so you can't sort by one column (Filter panel) and affect the other panels.

Alright, thats what I was afraid of. I'll have to settle for "[YYYY] Album"

Thanks for your help Zarkon.
