I'm setting up a spare PC to play MP3's through my stereo as a "music server". I've settled on EasyLAME's vbr extreme as my encoder. I'd like to be able to play random tracks based on musical style but I've never really bothered with MP3 tags. Some questions:

1)Recommended MP3 player for sound quality? (I plan to use Winamp 2.79)
2)ID tag type (1 or 2?) Recommended tag editor?

Helpful links welcome.

1) foobar2000 os the prefered player by many people here: http://foobar2000.hydrogenaudio.org
2) if it has to be id3 then use v1. But if you plan to use foobar as your player you can use APEv2 which is IMO the best tag standard ever.
Your editor would be TAG by case: http://www.saunalahti.fi/~cse/mpc/
If you don't like commandline programs then you can use a frontend for TAG.
