I know, everyone asks a ton of questions here, but you guys are the best. tongue.gif Well, here's my problem. I have WavPack files, compressed with hhx6miq (if it matters), with tags (sometimes even lyrics). Now, here's the actual problem. Encoding it to MP3 is no problem, but the tags in the MP3 are IDv1? Why is this? It's horrible that such a tag standard is being forced onto my beautiful MP3s! Is there a setting I can edit? By the way, here are the settings I use with LAME: -S --replaygain-accurate -V 2 --vbr-new --priority 3. So, what is the problem guys? Is this widely know? If so, I am so sorry. sad.gif

Ah, I didn't think to check in advanced. (And funnily enough, I've been through here before looking for other options.) Now, here's the issue. It's currently on ID3v2 + ID3v1, but it seems to write the latter one. Maybe it is the software? I'll encode again, and if that doesn't work, I'll just use ID3v2. smile.gif

Quick question, which version of ID3 is it? ID3v2.4?
2E7AH
yes, btw i use APE2 + ID1
cubanresourceful
Alright, it's writing tags now. I wonder what happened before? Oh well, it's working as expected except for one little thing. It seems like it does not write album artist tag nor lyrics. What's up with that? Oh well, I guess I can live without the album artist, but lyrics? How am I supposed to sing to my songs?
2E7AH
it sure does

in which tag names are "album artist" and "lyrics" in your wv files?

you can't see them in properties or you can't see lyrics in lyrics panel?
cubanresourceful
Well, I've done a test. (I can't even see them by going into properties. Lyrics are in the LYRICS tag, and album artist is in the ALBUM ARTIST tag.) With foobar, the album artist isn't copied over, nor is lyrics. I tested dBpowerAmp, and it copied both lyrics, and set the album artist as BAND, which works for my purposes because its displayed as album artist anyways. Well, I guess I'll just use dBpowerAmp to encode into MP3 until I find a way around this problem. Unless you know of a solution? Again, thanks for your help.

i converted wv file to mp3 with lyrics and album artist and it works fine
cubanresourceful
...This is strange. And I'll assume your using LAME 3.98? Well, its okay. At least I've got my tags, little things like that I can add it myself. Again, thanks. biggrin.gif

I got a similar question, is it possible to tell foobar (or lame) to write ID3v2.3 tags and not ID3v2.4?
My Mp3 player only reads v2.3, so i have to re-save the tags with mp3tag every time dry.gif

Lucky Luciano
The compatibility mode(slower) writes v2.3.

Correct, the answer is similar but doesn't answer my question wink.gif

I was not sure if it's lame or foobar that sets which tags to write, so i assumed it's lame. That's why i was asking this here.

I guess not, but if you had gone ahead and tried it out, you would have answered your own question for yourself.

Trying what out unsure.gif
I was not asking if the tags that are written are v2.4 or v2.3 when selecting idv2 only, but how to force them to v2.3.

I would never have thought that the "compatibility mode" is actually writing v2.3
Especially cause the further description states that this mode is to avoid bugs in other software and that the tags are not specification-compliant dry.gif
carpman
Fair enough. I just meant you could try it out and see it compatibility mode solved your problem.
You may find this thread interesting and if you haven't much time, this post sums it up.

Thanks for the links, that explains the "non-specification-compliant" part.
