...just to register a dshow-filter? To be honest that's a bit too much effort...
Are You able to register lame.ax by using "regsvr32 lame.ax"? I'm running WinXP SP3 (german Vers.).

Anyway, thanks for replying,

Lame.ax uses MSVCR90.DLL so you must have this dll. So you have to go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en and download vcredist_x86.exe. After all, it's just 4 MB long.

I feel the same way, too much effort to install this package to install a Directshow filter.

However, I am glad the answer was waiting for me when I searched. HA rocks. And I can't really complain about free software.

For those interested, the 3.98-final lame.ax DirectShow filter installs without installing the MSVC++ 2008 Redistributable Package.

Well, for starters, any newly available software is likely to want this installation, or will include the relevant parts. And, secondly, I had to install the WindowsSDK to compile this, just for a couple of headers and to compile one library, and that was a 1.3GB install! blink.gif People seem to be making rather a fuss about a one time, not exactly huge install! wink.gif
