Full Version: clipping in mp3 files

When I encode some CD to mp3 and then analyze compressed tracks with RG in foobar, almost all tracks have a track peak > 1. A lot of people says that if I use RG to adjust the volume I can esily avoid this problem, but I'm not so sure about it. Here's my doubt:
if I decide to record my voice with a mic and I use too much gain, the recording of my voice will be distorted.
If I lower the volume of this recording, the overall volume will be low but I cannot restore the "non distorted sound"... So in the end there's nothing I can do (I should have lowered the gain BEFORE recording).
Is it the same with mp3?
If this is true, isn't better to use the scale parameter (<1) when enconding track to really avoid the clipping?

Thanks and sorry for my bad English

@ vize84: As long as the original file doesn't clip you can fix the clipping introduced in MP3 encoding.
