The MPC codec doesn't seem to be working for me... it will decode MPC to WAV files, but won't encode WAV to MPC. When I run the program on a WAV file, it appears to encode about 10% of the file, then pops up a window that reads,
Errors whilst encoding / Codec error",
and stops.
I use dBpowerAmp regularly from the right-click menu to do small encode and decode jobs (e.g, if I download a FLAC sample, I don't bother to hunt up FLACdrop to decode it to WAV, I just use dBpowerAmp from the right-click), so I don't think I'm doing anything obviously wrong.
The following might (or might not) be important:
I'm running Windows XP Home on a Dell Dimension 8200.
I don't have the Power Pack installed.
I downloaded the MPC codec installer to a folder C:\Program Files\Audio\Encoders\dBpAmp\Compression\MPC, and directed the installation to the \dBpAmp folder; it installs without complaint. When the encoding menu pops up, I point the program to the mppenc encoder version that I routinely use for batch jobs with Speek's MPC batch frontend.
The dMC Configuration menu recognizes that the MPC codec is installed.
Any help you can give would be appreciated...
Try this:
Convert To >> Musepack mpc (CLI) >> 'Locate'
and select the mppenc in:
C:\Program Files\Audio\Encoders\dBpAmp\Compression\MPC

Thanks! That works (although the mppenc.exe that I had to select was located in C:\Program Files\Audio\Encoders\dBpAmp\Compression\Musepack mpc (CLI); no mppenc was installed in \dBpAmp\Compression\MPC).
But now I'm confused... is the command,
Convert to >> MPC
non-functional on purpose? Why is the option there? Also, I thought that the MPC encoding had been made non-CLI (that's what codec central says), so why does "Musepack mpc (CLI)" enter into it at all? Certainly, in the dialog box opened by "Convert to >> Musepack mpc (CLI)", there is no command line option, just a choice among the seven quality settings.
I don't mean to complain, I'm happy to have the MPC encoding option available in dBpowerAmp -- I'd just like to understand the setup.
You shouldn't have Convert To >> mpc, (just delete the mpc.dll in \Compression to get rid of it)
atleast the one I have is the Musepack mpc (CLI) - it is still CLI, that is it compresses through an external program, all tagging is handled internally.
