The thread containing
this post of mine contains a lot of suggestions.
In my post, I point out that I don't use mp3cue, but prefer mp3splice output plugin for amazingly perfect-sounding seamless and gapless MP3 playback, even without using the --nogap option in lame to encode the files (always --alt-preset standard).
However, I've largely switched from Lame APS (.MP3) over to MusePack Standard (.MPC) for my own encodings, which is inherently gapless. Even so, I still leave MP3splice turned on, and it sounds perfect whatever file types I throw at it.
I did also install WinCue v1.32 as a General Purpose WinAmp v2 plugin, which you might want to try as an alternative to mp3cue with a different interface.
By the way, does anyone know whether hardware MP3 players (flash, HDD or CD-R, I don't care) will gaplessly play MP3s created with lame --nogap? What about Ogg Vorbis, on the few CD/CD-R players that support it? I presume they wouldn't shut down and reopen the WaveOut device like Windows/WinAmp normally does.
