Full Version: Strange artifacts with .ape and fb2k .5?

Hi.

I've recently switched to Monkey's Audio as my method of compressing my music. I'm very pleased with it... it sounds wonderful on foobar2k.

But I recently upgraded to .5, and - sometimes - I can detect faint, almost-not-there clicks/pops at regular intervals. This doesn't always happen. I'm having a very tough time pinpointing what causes it. It seems to happen if I have lots of programs running; but it didn't happen with .43, and I have quite a bit of RAM (1024MB) so I don't think that's the problem.

If I close foob2k when I detect it, then re-open and re-play, it's usually gone.

In fact, it's usually triggered by a certain .ape file ... or a few certain ones, actually. I have no idea what it is about those files that causes it.

I haven't yet noticed it in MP3s.

Any ideas what it could be?

Edit: Soulseek seems to aggravate the problem. But it never happened with .43 ...

Edit again: it happens with MP3s, as well, so the problem isn't limited to Monkey's Audio. I think I'll go back to .43 for now.

This may sound simple, but have you tried increasing the length of the output buffer?

No, didn't try that. But I didn't change it from the size I was using in .43, which didn't cause any problems.

I upgraded to .51a, and that seemed to fix the problem, I think. Guess my computer didn't like .5 ... laugh.gif
