I was copying some of my cd's to my computer when I put Metallica - Garage Inc. CD-2 into my drive. My drive spun up to maximum and started to load Sympatico internet software

I have no idea what is going on. This is a genuine metallica disc, but it does this in every computer drive I've tried. It also doesn't seem to work in the stereo. I bought this cd a while ago, so I no longer have the receipt. Is there any way I can get a replacement? It kinda sucks to have a wrecked cd that I have barely listened to. It is in pristine condition, so it should work. I took it out of my computer drive when the drive wouldn't spin down. Has anybody heard of anything like this happening? Thanks for your help.

how long ago did you buy it? maybe it's trying to connect to the internet or something. maybe they want you to go to some site to download some crappy DRM music files instead of mp3s on p2p
strange to say the least

It has to be at least two years old. It's only the second cd that seems to do this. The first cd can copy and play in the drive without problems.

The CD must be a multimedia enhanced CD.
Launch EAC
Insert the CD in the drive. If the option to disable autoplay is set in EAC, nothing should happen.
There you should see some audio and one data tracks. Select the audio tracks only.
Perform a "copy selected tracks uncompressed" action.
Burn the resulting wavs as a new audio CD (without gap between them).
This should give you a pure audio copy, that doesn't launch antything when inserted into a computer.
You might also just disable autoinsert notification for your drives, but no CD will automatically run anymore (including this one). Everytime you want to install a game or a soft from a CD, you'll have to right click the drive in Explorer, and to click "autoplay".

There is a much easier solution to all of this...just press and hold "Shift" after inserting the CD. Wait until the drive reads the index and settles into a constant speed. Wait another second or two and release. Presto, no Autoplay. B)
(If this doesn't work immediately, try waiting a little longer before releasing the button)

This cd is not an enhanced cd. When I look at it in EAC, there is only the data track on it.

In this case it is just a CD ROM. There is no music on it, exept in files for computer. It shouldn't play in a CD player.
If you want to view the content without connecting the Internet, you ca use either a firewall, either disconnect the computer from the Internet before loading the CD.

But why would a sympatico cd come in a metallica album that I bought in store? I payed over 20 bucks for this album and one of the cds does not work. I bought this same album before, but I bought it again because it got scratched. But now I can't even use the second cd.
