There's an utility called Audiochecker to check genuinity of lossless formats like APE an FLAC. But is there any utility alike to check authenticity of re-encoded MP3 files to understand, if they are re-encoded or originally encoded from any lossless formats?

Because it probably can't be done. How would you imagine it could know?
There are programs that can check if a wav form has mp3 characteristics but it can't say anything about its association with the source.

I don't think AudioChecker is of any help even with WAV files... some CD's that have been mastered in the 80's and early 90's do not use the full 22kHz scale. Some of them go up to 20kHz or so. In these situations, even with a genuine lossless CD, AudioChecker will report the WAV files as MPEG source, miserably failing. The software only bases its analysis by prediction of frequency cut.
Being that way, wouldn't be a mess to identify MP3 files? You could actually create a 128kbps MP3 with a 22kHz lowpass, fooling the noobs to think it was 320kbps.
The best practice is to make MP3 off genuine source WAVs.

Don't know about audiochecker but there are more sophisticated ways to guess if a wav file is from lossy source or not than just looking at low-pass.

Thank you all for your replies. Especially about transcoding low bitrate mp3 using 22kHz lowpass filter!
And I know about the Tau Analyzer pointed by Jan S, which I've actually found really helpful.

As long as you were taking that as an advisory of what
can be done and not thinking that it's something you ever actually
should do in practice, that's fine.

I wouldn't trust Tau Analyzer since it fell short reporting genuine WAV (that were up to 20kHz) as "MPEG data".
Then, what's an expert's advice about a tool/utlity which is able to test and report about authenticiy of a lossless audio file?
