Hi all,
I was wondering if there is a program out there which is able to create playlists by the mp3-files genre (stored in the ID3-Tag)? For example, I got 500 mp3-files and I want to create a playlist only with Rock-songs, dance-songs and so on... Is there any tools which's able to do this? I do already have one which is able to sort the playlist by genre, but it can't just pick out the ones with the same genre.
As a result of that, I've got another question.. Is there any proggi out there which is able to update all the genres in my files automatically like CDDB during cd-ripping?

Thanx in advance

Thanx for the link, downloaded it right away.
Are you familiar of that program? Because I don'T really understand how to do that it works the way I want. Sure, on the homepage they say that it's possible to read from CDDB files, but where would I get one of those huh.gif ??
Okay, I can sort them by every item of ID-tag but I'm not able to create a playlist just with Rock, Dance ... files.
Does anyone know how to do this? I checked out the command line help but I couldn't find any extra option which fits my needs..

Case
Use option --allow genre=x, for example Tag --recursive --oneplaylist --allow Genre=rock *.mp3.

I'm not really into command lines, blink.gif Could you explain what those lines mean and how I'll be able to update all my files with their genre from some database?
Furthermore, how will I be able to modify the options to create playlists for the genre I want?

there is a frontend for tag by speek available here:
http://home.wanadoo.nl/~w.speek/speek.htm

another option is to write the command line in a notepad file and save it with a .bat extension and so all you have to do is double click it, very usefull smile.gif

You may want to have a look at Dapyx (shareware dry.gif ) from Here . It can display files according to genre and then you can select them and save them in a playlist. I hope it does what you want. smile.gif

I fond out that my tagging-program can sort the genre column and if I select the files which are of the same genre, I'm able to save them as a playlist.
But I would rather like to use "Tag" because it seems to be more efficient and faster than doing this by hand. But as mentioned above, the commandline's giving me a hard time...
Anyway, is it really that difficult to find a program that:

- send the file information to some DB and calls all available tag-infos
- create playlists by selecting the genre the playlist should be created with

The fabulous Window$ Media Player allows you to sort music by category, album, artist...

That does not mean, that I use this crummy proggy smile.gif

Winamp rulez, cause foobar has no seekbar sad.gif

Hi again,
I finally found something good for creating playlists by genre.
ID3 Browse tongue.gif

Also command line, but quite easier than http://www.ca5e.tk/

Have you tried using the "album List" function in foobar?
if you put "genre;album;title" or just "genre" if you only want genre sorting in the Components>Album List>Tree Hierarchy text box in the options you will get your files sorted the way you wanted.
