I've been using Windows Media Player 11 to rip my Mp3's for quite some time now, but I recently made the switch to EAC and LAME in order to get the highest quality MP3's available. I consider myself a bit of an audiophile, and I really don't generally enjoy listening to MP3's, but I use them because of the practicality...

I downloaded EAC and LAME 3.98.2 and followed the Guide in the wiki. I want all my mp3's encoded at the "insane" level of 320 KBps using ID3v2.3 tags, therefore I used the following Command line option (ID3v2 being the closest thing I could find on the guide to 2.3):

-b 320 %s %d --id3v2-only --pad-id3v2 --ta "%a" --tt "%t" --tg "%m" --tl "%g" --ty "%y" --tn "%n" %s %d

However, for some reason, I can't make it through even one track without EAC stopping and giving me the "error" message. I really can't figure this out... I have the setting on "high quality", and I followed the guide exactly as it says (aside from substituting the beginning of the command line). I've tried this with several discs, and it just doesn't work. If anyone can possibly point out what I might be doing wrong I would really appreciate it. I figure it's probably something simple, but alas, I am still stumped... Thanks for your time.

Dude... I don't know what I'm doing. Let me try that...

Just in case it wasn't clear, %s %d goes only at the end.

Use
-b 320 %s %d
and let EAC tag.

This is a classic example of how unnecessary complication can lead to problems.

Just a suggestion. Why not indicate in the wiki that in most cases, it's better and simpler to let EAC tag?

It's simpler for sure, but it's been that way for a long time and some people actually do want to be able to have V2 tags without also having to have V1 tags.

I have a feeling that if it were changed, there would be quite a bit of backlash and I don't want to be the one who caused it.

I actually deleted the s and d from the end of the command line, and it worked... when I came back to re-read this thread I noticed someone said that the s and d only goes at the end. Is this true? I didn't think it would matter... but I got the 320 command line (which included the s and d) from the EAC website.

I followed the wiki exactly when I set up EAC. So the command line is literally copied and pasted. I like the v2.3 ID3 tags myself, so that's the command line I chose. If I let EAC tag it for me wouldn't it use v1 by default? I'm wondering why it is "Better and simpler" to use v1 (Let EAC tag)?
