Has anyone figured out a way to get the high quality surround jack to work? I installed the 5.40a drivers under Vista compatibility mode, but it always gives me errors when I try to play back with both DS or WASAPI.

Bump.

I can't figure this out for the life of me, either.

I'm doing some general testing with Win 7, both 32 and 64 bit versions.

I'm having sound-related problems with them as well, this time with the onboard Realtek High Defintiion Audio.

I've got 2 problems. Adobe Premiere won't play sound at all, and Cool Edit Pro 2.0 won't record from the Realtek HD interface.

However, CEP will record from a generic USB device. That tells me that there is a driver-related problem with the HD audio.

The MS story is that Windows 7 has no signficiant changes over Vista, and everything should work with Vista drivers.

????????????????

Good starting point - figue out which chipset is on that Chaintech card, and shoot from there. You've probably done that already, right?

I think Vista had a completely re-written sound architecture. I have a Chaintech 710 working fine with Vista using drivers it downloaded from Windows Update.

Thats my impression, Vista was a heavy rewrite which broke a lot of things from XP, like most if not all drivers.

Why they changed things so much that things are broken again in Windows 7 seems like a bit of a mystery.
