I have Apple's Quicktime Pro for Windows and I'm trying to find a way to encode MP4 in batches.
I believe you can use Applescript on the Mac, but does anyone know of a utility that does this on Windows?
Many thanks.
The applescript is in a small/free program, AACelerator, at
http://www.macmethod.com/aacellerator.htmlIt's easy, works, and is very useful.
My only disappointment is that it seems to work only for encoding stereo files, not mono, and in the near future I'll be converting many speech-tapes (from lectures, radio-talk,...) and have to separately encode each file. If anyone knows about a Mac program that works with mono (for me) or on a PC (for paulj), please help. Thanks.

MikeR:
I'm writing from mac:method.com, the makers of AACelerator. I saw you posting here about lack of support for "mono" files and wanted to know, exactly what the format of these mono files are. I'm on the cusp of releasing a new version of AACelerator and would love to include support for this, if possible.
Send me a message if you think you could offer more details (use the support button on the About... panel or just post a note here.

By the way, Apple also has a forum for QuickTime with one board each for the Mac and the Windows version:
http://discussions.info.apple.com/WebX?13@...ziqL.0@.ee6ba94And another for AppleScript:

Scott,
First, THANKS for the great program! And for requesting user-feedback to help you make it even better.
You ask,
>I saw you posting here about lack of support for "mono" files and wanted to know, exactly what the format of these mono files are. ... Send me a message ... or just post a note here.
I'm using SparkME (another excellent free program) to record from cassette tapes; it makes an AIFF file, which can then be edited into sections (if several different things have been recorded onto one tape) with stereo (both tracks, L+R) or mono (either only-L or only-R). / Although I probably won't do this very often, since I've heard that there can be "phasing" problems when combining both tracks of a tape into a single channel, some users might want to be able to convert a L-plus-R stereo track (AIFF, WAV, MP3,...) into mono-AAC.
Recently, I've been converting AIFF-mono files (of lectures, conference talks, interviews,...) one at a time, using QuickTime 6 Pro, into AAC files.
In version 6.0 of QT6 there were two settings: for bitrate and mode (stereo or mono).
But in version 6.1 of QT6 (available for Mac OS X only, so far) there are four settings: for bitrate, mode (stereo or mono), sampling rate, and quality. It would be useful -- in fact, necessary for using AACelerator unless a user is willing to accept whatever default settings QT6 would supply -- to have AACelerator let the user define each of these settings. / Then we can just drag a whole bunch of files onto the AACelerator icon, which makes them show up in the window of your program, then hit "encode" and let it run. :<)
Of course, YOU don't need all of this detail, Scott. (it's for the benefit of those unfamiliar with QT6-Pro-6.1 and AACelerator)
Anyway, if you could do this, for the benefit of the small minority of us who are not encoding from CDs (in stereo, of course) into AAC, who are converting speech files (usually mono) instead of music files (usually stereo), it would be greatly appreciated. And I think everyone would like to have a way to control all of the newly available settings. Thanks.
