hi, new user - hope this is in the right forum

im having a problem with my crown macrotech 5002vz. after about 5 secs of use, the ODEP light goes out and the signal cuts completely. can't be a heat issue as im using it outdoors and is well ventilated. i was powering a pair of EV Eliminator 8ohm 350w speakers, and the same problem when powering a pair of EAW sb850 subs. this happens even w/ no signal coming into the amp and the channels turned down all the way. am i making a legitimate mistake w mismatching loads, or is there a problem with the amp? any help is much appreciated.

It really sounds like there's something wrong with the amp. It wouldn't hurt to contact Crown. They have a good reputation, and I assume they have good customer service/support.

Properly wired 8 ohm speakers shouldn't cause any "mismatch". The amp is rated from 8 ohms down to 2 ohms with normal stereo operation. (Any modern amp will operate safely at higher than recommended/rated impedance, you just won't get the rated power from it.)

Are you getting sound at all for the 1st 5 seconds? Maybe you've got a short? Are you using the same cables with the full-range speakers and the subwoofers? (Maybe one of the cables is shorted?) Have you tried both sets of speakers (and same cables) with a different amp, or do you have an ohmmeter?

Does the light go out with no speakers connected? You're not using the bridging mode, right? If you're using a regular stereo set-up, make sure the switch is set for regular stereo operation. Otherwise, make sure the speakers are wired to match the operation mode. (This amp can be set-up for stereo, parallel-mono, or bridge, and the speakers have to be wired appropriately.)
