I was just curious why Winamp's/Coding Technologies AAC encoder isn't thrown into the AAC discussion much. It's always about iTunes/Quicktime and Nero.

Good observation.
I didn't even include CT encoder to my abx tests due to lack of VBR. I should give a try at least.

Acording to Wiki aacplusenc is based on CT encoder. Does it mean that is the same encoder used in Winamp (produce same output as well)?

No. See this listening test for a comparison: http://www.mp3-tech.org/tests/aac_48/results.html

I see no connection between that test and capma's statement/question? The two CT encoders in that test are the same release version. Plus I think aacplusenc is the CT encoder.

The aacplusenc that is referred to is based on the 3gpp encoder that was used in that test, which clearly gives different results from the CT encoder. The 3gpp code has a very basic psychoacoustic model, although it is not bad at all.

I see. Thanks for clarifying.

Thanks for replies. Is there any command line encoder that uses same code as Winamp AAC encoder, or some utility that can encode using enc_aacplus.dll (Winamp plugin)?
